RISE
2023
RISE is a visual allegory about the courage to recognize and act on what truly matters.
Adapting to change can gradually become passive acceptance, distancing us from beliefs that once gave us direction. RISE is about restoring what has been forgotten but remains meaningful. Renewal begins when remembrance becomes action.

RISE connects personal history with landscape, nature, and spiritual memory. A young woman returns to her mountain birthplace, now veiled in a blue-gray haze that the villagers have learned to accept. She traces the haze to its source at the summit, where she discovers dust falling from an abandoned statue of an ancient goddess and chooses to clear it away.
Courage in RISE is quiet rather than heroic. By giving this impulse the form of a shared story, the book celebrates ordinary courage and invites readers to recognize the same capacity within themselves.
Selected Spreads
Inspired by monuments, inscriptions, and devotional objects, the book presents the journey as both a narrative and physical passage.
The act of reading becomes a continuous experience, allowing meaning to emerge through movement, sequence, and reflection.

Book Structure
Hardcover Concertina
RISE is constructed as a hardcover concertina that unfolds horizontally.
Inspired by monuments and inscriptions, the structure presents the journey as both narrative and physical passage. Continuous illustrations on the front side extend across eight panels, while six short texts beginning with “RE–”appear on the reverse side.
The first panel remains free while the final panel is attached to the back cover, allowing the book block to unfold fully from its case.
